Surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks, the hamlets of Livigno run attractively along a broad valley floor. The resort enjoys a fine snow record, thanks to its high altitude, which has earned it the nickname of ‘Piccolo Tibet’ (Little Tibet). It is also a favourite with bargain-hunters, offering a tempting array of duty-free goods (especially alcohol, clothing and consumer durables). The après- ski is varied with a spread of restaurants serving mainly cheaper Italian dishes, along with some lively bars and buzzing clubs.

The resort has expansive skiing on 72 miles of pistes and 40m² of cross-country routes. The skiing falls into four separate areas, all linked by a free bus service. The core of the ski-in, ski-out pistes are on gentle sunny slopes. Steeper pistes are to be found, but on the whole, the wide open “motorways” make it a paradise for improving skiers and novice snowboarders.
