Le Grand Serre Che’, is the fourth largest ski area in France and takes its name from the peak that dominates the valley. It has the Provencal feel of traditional France and is, in fact, not a resort but a collective of a villages between the Col du Lautaret and the ancient garrison town of Briançon. This includes Chantemerle (Serre Chevalier 1350), Villeneuve– Le Bez (Serre Chevalier 1400) and Monêtier-Les-Bains (Serre Chevalier 1500). The resort’s position endows it with a wonderfully sunny micro-climate, usually notching up 300 days of sun a year. The resort's appeal is enhanced by its links to Montgenèvre and the Milky Way, adding another enviable 900km of piste to its own 250km of pistes on the Grande Galaxie lift pass.

On the snow, intermediate skiers are in paradise with a multitude of options and challenges, while beginners are as happy with their easier slopes. More accomplished skiers head for the thrills of nearby Monetier, and its considerable variety of blacks and off-piste. Boarders have been well-provided for with their own park and superb open runs. Many visitors are impressed by the wealth of tree-lined runs and the lasting north-facing snow cover. After sun down, the resort’s nightlife is down-to-earth and unpretentious, also with a strong French feel. Rustic country fare is served in the local eateries, and Briancon nearby offers some sophisticated nightlife.
